Having missed its original airing on NBC in 1990 I was completely unprepared for the luminous screenplay of this partial thriller/part human-interest tale of a young girl who claims to be the daughter of a wealthy Atlanta businessman who had allegedly been killed in a plane crash 15 year prior. But her biggest issue is people pronouncing her name wrong, when they confuse it with Caroline.
Flawless, heartwarming story with neat twist at the end. But little does he know, that things are about to take a turn for the worst. As Caroline becomes involved in the lives of the Carmichaels she learns family secrets galore. Being part mystery, part topical storytelling, it takes the viewer into the lives of a well to do family with a few skeletons. Coraline is also very skeptical of what adults tell her, especially her parents since it is implied that they, mostly her mother, would always break their promises to her and would not listen to her. This Hallmark Hall of Fame picture was, in a word: B-o-r--i-n-g with a capital "B." Under Caroline's compassionate tutelage, however, she begins to do exactly that, which threatens the dynamic underpinning of the family. Caroline returns just before the deadline to claim her Grandmother Adkins inheritance.
