More about the politics of free speech and the hypocrisy of Middle America than country music, Shut Up & Sing is an energising, provocative and highly thoughtful documentary. But I guess "Return of the Secaucus 7" is as good a place as any. ), "Shut Up and Sing" does have its p.r. Details. Another emphatic no. Surprises at every turn. To Ms. Maines’s surprise, the controversy doesn’t blow over in a week or two. I never review movies, but this movie got on my nerves so bad, I felt compelled to write about it. Music DonR. The movie suggests how pop stars are marketed like politicians to targeted constituencies. It's about a group of college guys, who used to sing A Capella together, and their lasting friendship. Shut up and sing is a great mixture of humor, friendship, and making you take the time to remember the good things in life. Sooo funny and the singing was great as well! I saw this movie at the Rhode Island Film Festival a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. 19 out of 31 found this helpful. I watched this film with a friend of mine who lacked much of an opinion on the Chicks one way or the other-once it was over she was talking about buying all their albums and wanting to see them in concert! As it follows the Dixie Chicks around for three years, it takes Ms. Kopple’s usual route and lets events speak … The dialogues are loving crafted and witty, but manage to avoid being annoyingly clever.
Banjo player During the course of 2003-2006, Robison and Maguire have babies (Emily has twins) after agonizing fertility procedures. Although it sounds cliché, it will absolutely make you laugh, cry and reflect on your own life. It tells a sad truth about our society while simultaneously giving us hope that not everyone will strive to conform at the cost of personal liberties; one of the most important of which is the freedom of speech; for which NO ONE deserves death threats and so much ignorantly inspired hate.
I saw "Shut Up and Sing" at The US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado in March 2006. The scenery choices were amazing.
On March 10, 2003, Natalie Maines fired a shot heard ’round the world. I laughed practically nonstop...and was moved to tears in places.
I often hear "they don't support the troops", "they are unpatriotic"-none of which, of course, is true. 2 out of 6 found this helpful. There are so many laugh-out-loud lines in the movie that I want to see it again to catch them all (unfortunately it's not in theaters yet, I saw it at the HBO Comedy Festival). A very impressive, intelligent comedy. Hide Spoilers. The audience was clearly on a high after seeing this film and gave a lot of positive feedback. After seeing so many dumb comedies in the past, it was a nice change of pace to see a smart movie written by someone who obviously treats his audience like intelligent, mature, cerebral adults. 1 out of 5 found this helpful.
