They are trying to get those FAM numbers lower and lower. While technically true, when calculating FAM salary, you have to also account for the per diem and night/Sunday differentials most FAMS bank yearly.
FAMS was ramped up after 9/11 with mainly experienced Fed LEOs coming from other agencies. FAMS do. Not accounting for locality and LEAP. Not sure what it would be if I was an 1811 for the same timeframe.“Right now I'm having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. The FAMS training program has little to nothing to do with criminal investigations or immigration law - as currently instituted it is more bare bones than UPTP, which is not waiverable into an SA or DO job at ICE. The federal air marshal salary for candidates in the Pay Band J does not include locality pay, a cost of living allowance, a retention incentive pay, or Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP). That’s not 13 pay.

They got a magic number and they are closer than ever to hitting it.
A lot of them were grandfathered in and well beyond the age limit of 57.
Agreed. Former FAM here. TSA comprises nearly 50,000 security officers, inspectors, air marshals and managers who protect the nation’s transportation systems by screening for explosives at airport checkpoints, inspecting rail cars, patrolling subways with law enforcement partners, and working to make all modes of transportation safe. It's an interesting take but in addition to the fact that it devalues the uniformed agencies and their missions, I also don't think it's feasible given the reality of federal law enforcement and the highly specialized nature of criminal investigations conducted at the fed level. An opportunity to give FAMS a chance to move into less tedious jobs.
Articles I read actually makes a lot of sense in favor of it. I agree, but with the COVID, who knows. Each series has a starting paygrade for new hires within the series, as well as a maximum paygrade that can be attained within that series. Probably get to super field offices (maybe 4-6 nationwide), training consolidation at ACY and you can live wherever.
Good morale move. In order for this to work there would need to be one basic academy government wide and then each agency would have additional training so that as you moved around you would only need to attend the agency specific training (10-14 weeks) and not another Complete 26 week academy.
