The Aptos Creek Trail is picturesque and forested. I arrived at 10am Sat and it was super hectic at the gate (like many parks on Sat). I think most could do it. Awesome park for anyone looking for a good workout. At the bottom, stay on this side of the creek and make your way up and along the path, and once past the landslide area, you'll see the way up, and another rope. There are two more parking areas further up Aptos Fire Road if you want to shave off 2 miles to the total trip. I do not think it is worth it to cross and I can foresee a serious accident until the trail is rebuilt. I like to run within the park...redwood trees and ferns....main road all the way to the summit....thru the China Camp (historical railroad construction camp)....once the main road begins to climb it becomes a well maintained dirt road. The random bikers on the trail look like they're having run, and can be annoying as they aren't supposed to be bikers, but I'm not sure what the culture is there? There is a maze of biking routes if you go to the ridgeline trails (not Aptos Creek Trail). I did not see anything bigger than squirrels or small birds. I enjoyed the quiet > no traffic just an occasional plane/copter once your out on the trails. Follow that, it's almost direct left.
