The former is better at long-range gunfights and reeks of Podvoisky (minus the fire chance), while the latter is a knife-fighter (I really mean it) with dpm competitive even in tier VI.Torpedoes are mediocre due to the lack of range, but if you see an enemy coming from ~6.5 - 7 km towards you, stealth-torpedoing is recommended.But the most important thing is to make sure what your allies are, locally. If you don't have DFAA it may be wiser to keep AA off depending on the situation to make yourself harder to strike.Or, alternatively you can run full AA spec and laugh at/taunt tier 4 carriers as they send futile attack attempts at you. As a DD, you do not have much staying power on the field, and you would get obliterated alone.In addition to what everyone else has said remember that you do have DFAA and decent AA. U.S. DDs tended to look quite dumpy but the Fletchers were sleek. You will need support at the cap, and you will need to watch out for radar and DDs that outgun you. Fire AP at broadsiding cruisers close range, always. Learn the radar ships and their range, be careful with Hydros, too.You will not deal too much dmg, especially since you will be facing T7s in almost every game.
If they commit to an attack on you though they will almost certainly take losses if you have DFAA.
